#47 in The Need To Know Badass Blues Instrumentals Series is the seasonally appropriate, Summer's End, featuring the evangelizer of harmonica, Mark Hummel. Although born in Connecticut, Mark grew up in LA and then "happened" out of San Fransisco so, he is generally associated with the West Coast Blues scene and sound. He is the producer of the Blues Harmonica Blowout Tour which has run every year since 1991 and has featured the likes of, hold on to your hats: Snooky Pryor, Billy Boy Arnold, Lazy Lester, Sam Myers, John Mayall, John Hammond, James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson, Lee Oskar, Jerry Portnoy, Magic Dick & Huey Lewis to name more than just a few. Mark is a Blues Music Award winner and was also nominated for a Grammy for his album Remembering Little Walter (Blind Pig, 2014). When The Blowout 2020 rolls through a town near you make sure you go check 'em out, and tell Mark we sent you!

The backing band on this track is Rich Kirch (John Lee Hooker 1984-2001) on rhythm guitar, Marcus David (Nick Gravenites) on drums and myself on bass. It was recorded at Skunkworks in Capitola CA. Mixed by the Godfather of Grunge, Jack Endino (Soundgarden, Nando Reis) and as always, masterfully mastered by Alex McCollough at True East Mastering.
